OptiPlex 755 - Dell's Environmental Machine
Friday, 7 September 2007, 3:29 pm
Press Release: Dell

Dell Announces Its Most Manageable, Energy Efficient Commercial Desktop Ever

Dell recently announced the OptiPlex 755, a new business desktop line with the most flexible systems management capabilities in the industry, EnergyStar 4.0 and Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) compliance.

Systems management tools can greatly reduce the cost of maintaining IT infrastructure. For example, the cost to resolve a trouble ticket by means of a desk side visit can cost up to seven times that of a remote resolution.

With the most flexible approach to systems management in the industry, the OptiPlex 755 will help simplify IT by reducing the number of desk side service visits required for system service and maintenance.

"Our commitment to customers is to reduce complexity throughout the lifecycle of their IT assets but without compromising flexibility," said Heber Delaney, Dell Australia's brand manager for business desktops and workstations.

The OptiPlex 755 allows customers to choose the right solution for their environment with room to grow as a result of:

* The only major PC vendor to offer customers a flexible upgrade

path from ASF (Alert Standard Format) to Intel vPro technology within the same platform.

* Support for industry-leading systems management solutions from

companies such as Altiris, Microsoft and LanDesk that integrate hardware and software administration.

* Dell Client Manager (DCM) Standard, a management console that is

available at no charge for the life of the deployment, unlike competitors that offer free "trial periods" for similar products.

With the OptiPlex 755 family Dell customers now have the ability to manage systems that are powered down or have no operating system, reducing time spent on patch deployment by up to 94 percent and desk-side service visits by up to 56 percent.

When desk-side visits are necessary, the number of steps required to remove and replace components on OptiPlex systems can be up to half that of similar Hewlett Packard desktops.

Dell Extends Environmental Leadership

The OptiPlex 755 builds on Dell's commitment to be the world's greenest technology company with products and services that reduce carbon emissions through energy efficiency. The company currently leads the industry with a comprehensive lineup of Energy Star 4.0 compliant commercial products and has the most business desktops with EPEAT "Gold"

status.

Energy Star 4.0 is a US Environment Protection Agency program, gaining international acceptance, which sets specifications for the amount of power drawn during three modes system modes - sleep, off and idle.

EPEAT (www.epeat.net), operated by the Green Electronics Council, allows purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes.

The OptiPlex 755, along with other Dell products, is also available with EnergySmart power settings that can help lower energy costs by up to 78 percent.

ImageDirect Helps Lower Effort and Cost of Maintaining Client Software Images

Dell's ImageDirect service is an industry-first service with 12 patents-pending that can reduce the number of software images customers are required to manage. It can decrease image maintenance cost and speeds time-to-deployment of new systems.

ImageDirect allows customers to create a single master image in up to nine languages with organisation-wide applications that can be customised according to departmental needs. When a change is made to the master image, it is made to all.

Pricing and Availability

The OptiPlex 755 is available today and starts at $969. For more information, visit www.dell.com/vpro. For details on Dell's energy-saving strategies, visit www.dell.com/energy.

Dell plans to extend advanced systems management capabilities to notebooks with the introduction of the Latitude D630c, based on Intel

Centrino Pro technology, in October this year.

About Dell

Dell Inc. listens to customers and delivers innovative technology and services they trust and value. Uniquely enabled by its direct business model, Dell is a leading global systems and services company and No. 34 on the US Fortune 500.
